World We Imagine

 Quote:

Today we are redefining the geography of community and accepting shared accountability for common human values. We have the chance to extend the notion that all men are created equal to every human being on the planet. This will require global structures and products we are only beginning to imagine.... Each of us in his or her own way can contribute something by thinking -- and acting -- like a true global citizen. We have only one world for all of us on earth, and the future really is ours to create, in a world we dare to imagine together.


I think a step I would love to take in the world comes a place of respect. I think something that resonated with me after reading this quote is the line "shared accountability for common human values" Stemming from this quote I instantly think of social media and the way that has affected peoples lives and mental health. Social media can be a very unfair place to individuals as it is the most prevalent source of information in today life. Social media has the ability to ultimately 'ruin' a person, or their reputation. When I think about accountability for common human values I think respect on the internet is something that could go a long ways. It is so easy to put someone down behind a screen because you are hiding your face. So my initial step into changing the world to be a better place would be to practice etiquette on the internet in social media. As powerful as the platform is, exercising positivity has the ability to alter peoples days and or even life style.

Extra Credit Post

This semester, one of the most memorable and culturally   enriching   experiences I 've   had was   watching   the Pacific Airshow in Newport Beach with a twist. Instead of watching   it   from the   packed   beach , my friends and I watched it from a boat putting just off the coast. The   show   itself was incredible,   with   military   fighter planes ,   stunt planes, and synchronized flight   groups   roaring   overhead . Seeing the   air   displays   from the water gave us   an   entirely   different   viewpoint , surrounded by hundreds of other boats and spectators. Book one post 1&2

For my first book selection, I read Atomic Habits by James Clear. I was drawn to it because I've been looking for ways to improve my daily routines and build healthier long-term habits, especially when balancing school, sports, and a social life. I'd heard a lot about this book from friends and podcasts, and it seemed like a practical guide to self-improvement without being too daunting or preachy. I was also curious to see how subtle changes could in fact lead to seismic results over time, as suggested by the book title. Another motivation behind my picking of Atomic Habits is that I've again and again made the effort to adopt new habits like waking up early, exercising regularly, or getting organized and have found myself at a loss about how to turn such habits into habits themselves.
